A 35-year-old Brethren man has been jailed on charges of criminal sexual conduct following an investigation by the Michigan State Police (MSP) Cadillac Post.

On Oct. 6, a trooper was dispatched to a report of an abusive relationship.

The victim alleged the suspect had strangled her, physically abused her and sexually assaulted her on numerous occasions between June and October of 2019.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Bryan Beavers of Brethren.

Beavers was interviewed at the residence that he and the victim share in Brethren and was subsequently arrested and lodged in the Manistee County Jail.

Beavers was charged with one count of third-degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, a felony punishable by 15 years in prison and mandatory AIDS/STD testing; one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation, punishable by 10 years in prison or $5,000; and one count of fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, a high court misdemeanor punishable by two years in prison and mandatory AIDS/STD testing.

Beavers was arraigned in 85th District Court in Manistee County and is being held on a 10-percent $10,000 cash surety bond.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 29 at 3:30 p.m.
