A 44-year-old Ludington man is in critical condition this morning following a 7:35 p.m. Sunday accident caused when he crashed his 2015 Arctic Cat off-road vehicle into a deer on Sherman Road north of Mavis Road.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office reported that Michael Shelley of Sherman Road was southbound on Sherman when his vehicle struck the deer and ran off the road and rolled over onto its driver’s side.

Shelley was reportedly transported by Life EMS to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and was then flown by Aero Med helicopter to a Spectrum Health hospital in Grand Rapids, where he was still in critical condition this morning.

Sheriff Kim Cole said a dog that was riding with Shelley was not hurt during the accident.
