MANISTEE — A Bear Lake woman was charged with a pair of misdemeanors following an investigation into a crash last September that killed a 20-year-old Pentwater man and seriously injured a 23-year-old Ludington man.
Manistee County Sheriff John O’Hagen stated in a release that the county’s prosecutor charged Charlene Myers, 67, of Bear Lake, with a misdemeanor count of a moving violation causing death and a misdemeanor count of a moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function.
The first charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and/or a $2,000 fine.
The second charge carries a maximum penalty of 93 days in jail and/or a $500 fine.
Myers was arraigned on those charges, and was given a $1,000 personal recognizance bond. Her pretrial is set for June 26 at 11 a.m. in the 85th District Court.
The charges stem from an accident from late September 2018, when Andre Alvesteffer, 20, of Pentwater, died from injuries sustained, and Damon Williamson, 23, of Ludington, was injured. In the preliminary investigation at the time, the 2013 Ford Taurus driven by Myers allegedly crossed the center line, left the roadway and struck the men, who were working in a construction zone.
