A Mears man was sentenced Tuesday in 51st Circuit Court to jail and probation for resisting, obstructing and assaulting a police office.

Judge Susan K. Sniegowski sentenced Todd Allen Smith, 47, to four months in jail. Smith could serve up to one year of additional jail time at the court’s discretion if he violates the terms of his probation, and he was given credit for 105 days served.

Smith will serve two years of probation.

He was also sentenced to four months of jail time for use of methamphetamine, for which he received credit for 105 days already served.

Smith must pay $708 in fines and costs and could serve up to an additional year of discretionary jail time for the methamphetamine.

Smith pleaded guilty to the charges on May 28. The original incident occurred on Dec. 8, 2018, in the U.S. National Forest.
