Riverton and Pere Marquette fire departments responded to a structure fire at 3413 W. Anthony Road Tuesday night.

The fire was to a cement-walled barn and it was fully engulfed as firefighters arrived. The roof is down and some blocks are still standing.

There were three cars inside the building owned by Rudy Lopez, and Pentwater fire was called for more water. Riverton fire chief Joe Cooper said the crews are being careful fighting blaze because the structure had a steel roof and there could be other accelerants still inside.

Lopez said the three vehicles — a Ford pick-up, a Jeep, and a Camaro — were all everyday use cars. He said the Jeep was parked in the building tonight, and he had no idea what could have caused the fire. There also was a garden tractor in the building.

The fire is mostly extinguished with crews monitoring potential places where the embers and ash are the hottest.
