LOGAN TWP. — The Hawley Road Bridge between Campbell and Masten roads that was closed for construction in January and originally scheduled to reopen June 14 is now expected to remain closed until July 3, according to the Mason County Road Commission.

Construction work included the removing the original bridge — a single-span, 49-foot-long structure originally built in 1900 — and replacing it with a new 90-foot-long by 31-foot-wide concrete box beam with a 9-inch concrete deck.

The $1,048,000 project is funded by the Michigan Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration and the Mason County Road Commission.

Davis Construction Inc., of Lansing, is the primary contractor for the project.

Traffic will continue to be detoured to Walhalla Road to Kinney Road to Masten Road until work is complete and the bridge is reopened.
