The Ludington City Council on Monday heard first readings of proposed millages for next year, including an increased millage to pay for the police pension fund.
If approved, the police pension millage rate would increase from 1.35 to 1.5 mils, and it would be on the summer 2019 property tax bills. For a homeowner with a taxable value of $100,000, for example, this would be an increased tax of $15 per year.
The city’s police pension board has recommended the increase in anticipation of five to seven police officers retiring in the coming years, said City Manager Mitch Foster.
