The Western Michigan D League this past week announced its girls and boys all-conference teams, with a number of local athletes being named to those teams.

BRETHREN — Slow starts have plagued the Manistee Catholic boys basketball team in recent games, and it happened again in Wednesday night’s MHSAA Division 4 district tournament semifinal against Frankfort in Brethren, when it could least be afforded.

MARION — Pentwater was able to sink its free throws down the stretch and prevent a surprise from Mason County Eastern to take a 43-38 victory in the MHSAA Division 4 district semifinals Wednesday in Marion.

Basketball coaches and athletic directors from the West Michigan Conference met recently to put together the all conference team from this past season with a few local athletes being honored.

The Lakes 8 Activities Conference named its girls basketball all-conference teams recently, as Ludington had the most selections with five between the two teams.

LEROY — Hart and Evart exchanged blow after blow to each other in overtime of an MHSAA Division 3 boys basketball district quarterfinal Monday, and it was the Wildcats that scored the victory, 63-59.

PENTWATER — Pentwater didn’t bank on as dramatic a finish as it got Monday night, but the Falcons were able to hang on for a 66-56 win over rival Walkerville in the first round of district play.
