BIG RAPIDS — After a defensive stalemate in the first half Thursday, the young Ludington Orioles girls soccer team began to mount more pressure on the Big Rapids Cardinals’ goal in the second half as the two teams battled in the MHSAA Division 3 district championship game.

Finally, with 22:49 to play in the game, the Orioles broke through as sophomore Hailey Stowe dribbled in close to the net and fired a shot that freshman teammate Evelyn Pearson kicked into the net for the go-ahead goal.
