The National Weather Service Grand Rapids office is reporting hazardous swim and beach conditions along Lake Michigan on Thursday.
Stearns Park beach and the beach at Ludington State Park have both been identified as areas where the swim hazard risk is high, and beach hazards are in effect from 11 a.m. throughout the day.
Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett said the North Breakwater is closed because of the current wave conditions. He said the city will monitor the conditions so it may be reopened.
The swim hazard risk is also high in Oceana County at the Charles Mears State Park and Silver Lake State Park beaches.
According to the National Weather Service, a high risk of swimming hazards means that “dangerous waves and currents are expected along the shore. Swimming conditions may be life-threatening to anyone entering the water.”
