A public hearing for the Oceana County Board of Commissioners to take input on combining the Oceana County Clerks and Register of Deeds offices is scheduled for next Thursday, Jan. 23 in the board of commissioners room in Hart.
The hearing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. This will be the second time the county board has looked at combining the elected county clerk and register of deeds positions. The county explored the option several years ago before deciding to keep the positions separate.
County Administrator Bob Sobie in November searched the number of counties with combined clerk/register of deeds positions. He told the board that 38 of the state’s 83 counties have combined the position and that three more have been combined since 2013.
