Ruth Myers of Shelby was grocery shopping at Hansen Foods in Hart one day last week when she noticed something was missing.
A medical professional for 35 years, Myers asked store owner Dave Hansen why his employees weren’t wearing protective masks. When Dave told her that masks were not available, Myers took matters into her own hands. And then she made 70 masks for the Hansen Foods employees.
Myers said she has been sewing since she was in the sixth grade. She plans to sew more for nursing homes in the Muskegon area. She asks that anyone with quarter or eighth inch elastic straps to drop them off at Hansen Foods as she has several seamstress friends who are willing to help make more masks for hospitals, nursing homes and other medical facilities.
