A teenage girl was killed and her father suffered life-threatening injuries during a traffic crash in Oceana’s Grant Township Monday night.
According to a Michigan State Police Hart Post press release, 14-year-old Kaitlynn Scott was pronounced dead at the scene, and her father, Eric Scott, was transported by Life EMS to Mercy Health Hackley Campus in Muskegon with life-threatening injuries. The two were walking a dog at approximately 9:39 p.m. on Webster Road west of 72nd Avenue when the were struck by a 1994 International farm truck driven by a 57-year-old Rothbury man.
Alcohol and drug use are not believed to be contributing factors in the traffic crash. Portions of Webster Road were closed for approximately five hours while troopers investigated the crash.
Troopers at the scene were assisted by deputies from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office and emergency first responders from Grant Township Fire Department, Life EMS, and the Oceana County Medical Examiner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.
