MEARS — Michael DeRuiter played a terrific nine holes of golf last Tuesday at Golden Sands Golf Course, breaking a course record that he had previously shared with Alex Wagner and Sam Wagner by shooting a 27 from the blue tees.

The Wagner brothers and DeRuiter had each held the record before last week, each with 29s.

DeRuiter, who played with his dad Rich — along with Michael’s brother Bryan, the trio run DeRuiter Farms locally — last Tuesday, was at par or better on every hole. Michael made four birdies — on #2, #5, #8 and #9 — and an eagle on #1. (Rich had a pretty decent round in his own right, shooting a 36.)
