WALKERVILLE — Walkerville senior Alex Mendoza has always dreamed of playing collegiate soccer, and Friday morning he ensured he would get that chance, signing with Division III Finlandia University. Finlandia is located in Hancock in the Upper Peninsula.
Shelby not only put three players onto the all-West Michigan Conference soccer team this year, but also had three players earn all-state recognition after making a run to the regional finals.

SHELBY — Shelby didn’t worry about tomorrow in Tuesday’s district semifinal game against Benzie Central, and because the Tigers didn’t, they were rewarded with an 8-0 mercy-rule win that advanced them on to the district final against Big Rapids.
BIG RAPIDS — Hart's season came to an end Tuesday night in Big Rapids, as the Pirates dropped a close 2-0 decision to the top-seeded Cardinals.
REED CITY — Hart rallied from an early deficit Wednesday night to beat Reed City, 5-2, and advance to the district semifinals.
MANISTEE — Shelby defeated Manistee Wednesday night by a 3-1 margin to advance to the district semifinals, which the Tigers will host against Benzie Central.
PENTWATER — No team ever wants to see its season end, but the Pentwater Falcons certainly went out on one of their higher notes last Wednesday night, battling a solid Lakeview squad all the way to the end before falling 3-2.
