It was a decorated year for Shelby soccer as five players earned all-West Michigan Conference recognition, and two of them received an all-state nod. Hart added an additional all-WMC player.

MANISTEE — Shelby put forth a terrific effort last Wednesday in the district championship game against Ludington, but the Orioles scored the game’s only goal with only 8:26 to go and held on for a 1-0 victory.

MANISTEE — Shelby scored the first goal of the game four minutes in, and never trailed in defeating Manistee, 3-1, in a district semifinal game at Chippewa Field Monday night. That sent Shelby on to the finals Wednesday, also at Manistee, against Ludington.

MONTAGUE — Pentwater’s soccer team’s focus for a while now has been improving for the coming district tournament. Although the Falcons lost their ninth straight game Monday, a 10-2 defeat at Montague, coach Dan Lubin said his team got what it came for in the game.

SHELBY — Shelby has been battling the injury bug of late, and it played a big factor in the Tigers’ 3-0 loss to Whitehall last Wednesday in West Michigan Conference action.

PENTWATER — Tuesday’s county battle between Pentwater and Walkerville was scoreless nearly the entire first half, but Walkerville dominated the final 35 minutes, earning a 6-1 win over Pentwater.

MONTAGUE — Hart played a solid first half Monday against Montague, keeping most of the action in the midfield and preventing good scoring chances. However, the second half was a much different story, as the Pirates permitted Montague to control play and pick up a 4-2 West Michigan Conference win.

SHELBY — Shelby wasted no time taking command of Monday’s West Michigan Conference battle against Montague, scoring two quick goals and downing the Wildcats by mercy rule, 8-0.

MONTAGUE — Walkerville’s soccer team is, to put it mildly, inexperienced in 2019. The Wildcats have growing to do, and that was clear in their 8-0 loss Thursday at Montague.
