GRANT TWP. – The father who was hit with his teenage daughter by a farm truck June 3 while they were walking their dog has succumbed to his injuries.
Eric Lee Scott, 39, of Montague died Monday, June 10. He had been hospitalized at Mercy Health Hackley Campus in Muskegon since the accident which claimed the life of his daughter, Kaitlynn Ann Scott, age 14, who died from her injuries at the scene along with their dog.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Hart Post are investigating the fatal traffic crash that occurred on rural Webster Road west of 72nd Avenue around 9:39 p.m.
Preliminary investigation showed that a 1994 International farm truck struck the Scotts who were walking their dog on the shoulder of the two-lane paved road. The farm truck was operated by a 57-year-old Rothbury man.
Alcohol and drug use are not believed to be contributing factors in the traffic crash. Portions of Webster Road were closed for approximately five hours while Troopers investigated the crash.
Eric Scott worked for the Muskegon County Road Commission. He also coached sports and volunteered at school functions. Kaitlynn, who loved riding and showing mules, was involved in 4-H and FFA. She was a Montague Area Public Schools student.
A visitation for the father and daughter will be held Tuesday (June 18), 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church-Whitehall, 900 S. Warner St., Whitehall. Private interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Montague.
