Free Fishing Weekend in Michigan is coming June 8-9, and the White Lake Area Sportsfishing Association (WLASA) will be holding its annual kids’ fishing contest.

The contest will be held Saturday morning, June 8. Rain or shine, the event will be centered at the Pavilion in Goodrich Park in Whitehall.

Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. Bait will be provided as will refreshments and lunch. Should youngsters need equipment the club will have rods and reels for use on a first come, first served basis. Weigh in will start at 10 a.m. and end at noon.

Volunteers will be from Arconic, White Lake community and the White Lake Area Sportsfishing Association.

There will be three different age groups, and the top 10 fish weighed for boys and girls in each group will earn awards. All will get a grab bag with items sponsored by local sports shops and vendors.

The area the children will be fishing to land the big one is the public access from White Lake Dr. north to the Fishing Bridge on the Rail Trail Trestle over White River.
