The list goes on and on. Larry was a true renaissance man. Many things to many people in his short 73 years. Above everything, Larry was a kind and generous soul. Easy to spend time with, talk to, laugh with. His quiet, gentle nature, welcoming smile and twinkle in his eye were enchanting. Larry was one of those people that you did not turn down an invitation to spend time with. His fabulous hospitality was second to none. He always made time for you. He never turned down a call for help.

Larry traveled and lived in many, many places. Cowboy days running a dude ranch in Powderhorn, Colo.; Optical store co-owner in Kansas City, Mo. where he met his beloved Lisa, wife of 30 years; Apprentice Innkeeper at the Southmoreland on the Plaza B&B, which served as launching pad for the last three wonderful decades of his life.

Larry completed his GED later in life and went on to graduate Suma Cum Laude with a MBA in International Business.

Larry and Lisa embarked on the authentic restoration of the Esterdahl Arts and Crafts home in Whitehall, Mich. After spending 10-plus years lovingly, historically restoring it to it’s original splendor, they opened their home as the Cocoa Cottage Bed and Breakfast, featuring relaxing hospitality and all things chocolate. Larry served as co-owner, chef and innkeeper and captivated many guests with his warmth and charm.

Did you ever have the opportunity to awake to the aromas and culinary delights of one of Larry’s signature breakfasts? Or delight in one of his fabulous chocolate desserts? Then you experienced his second love. Larry loved food. Cooking it, sharing it and enjoying it. The banquet table in heaven has just added an outrageous chocolate spread and a chef with a marvelous sense of humor.

After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Larry made a peaceful transition into Eternal Love and Light.
