MUSKEGON—Muskegon-based Coast Guard Auxiliary members along with area first responders will be helping to “Fill the Boat” with toys and household goods at a special event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 22 in Muskegon.
The annual event, held in the Henry St. Walmart parking lot, will feature boats which the public may view or tour. Operation Black Sheep will be staffing a Vietnam War-era Navy river patrol boat at the location. The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department will have one of its rescue boats on hand.
This year, the Muskegon Rescue Mission will be the beneficiary of the event. The facility provides shelter and assistance to individuals and families in need in the Muskegon area. Local residents are asked to bring or purchase products that will be shared with the mission. Topping the list of items that are most needed are dried and canned food, sample-sized personal hygiene products, children’s toys and baby products.
Also participating in the event will be the Muskegon post of the Michigan State Police, the Roosevelt Park Police Department, and the Norton Shores Fire Department.
Walmart is located at 3285 Henry St. Muskegon.
