WHITEHALL – The property tax millage for the City of Whitehall in fiscal year 2019-20 will remain the same since 2014.

The total millage will be 15.77. Of that, 12.77 mills is for general operating revenue, and 3 mills is for street improvements.

In 2014 the city council approved adding the three mills for street improvements. Since then, the city has rebuilt Slocom Street from near Hall Street to S. Mears Ave. This year the city is rebuilding Main Street from S. Mears Ave. to Lake Street.

The city council unanimously approved the millage rate for the upcoming fiscal year at its May 28 meeting. The council also unanimously approved the upcoming budget following a public hearing at that meeting. There was no comment from the audience during the hearing.

The general fund budget will have anticipated revenue of $2.28 million and expenses of $2.45 million, resulting in a reduction in the fund balance of $167,366.

The city will also have fund balance draw downs for the Local Streets, Brownfield Redevelopment, Tax Increment Finance Authority, Capital Projects, Sewer, Water, Marina and Motor Pool budgets.
