ZEELAND — Reeths-Puffer had a late night on the softball diamond for its season-opening doubleheader at Zeeland West, as the second game didn't end until 9 p.m. under the lights. The Rockets lost both games, 9-7 and 16-9.

New Reeths-Puffer coach Sarah Ferenz played in the program and has coached several of the current players, so she knows the Rockets well. Still, the 2021 season will be interesting for her and the players as they (hopefully) fall into a routine of being on the varsity together.

Whitehall's softball team only has two returning varsity players from the 2019 season, so the Vikings will be breaking in a lot of new faces when the season gets going this week.

HOLLAND — Despite a nearly two-year layoff from varsity action, Montague pitcher Bailey Belinger certainly looked to be in midseason form Tuesday, throwing a mercy rule-shortened perfect game in the Wildcats’ opener. Montague won 10-0 in four innings.
